Colour:
- Grey in various shades (normally, the colour at birth is black, turning grey with time).
- Black.
- Fawn. Primary colours: red, yellow, cream (a trace of black or grey and a distinct mask are desirable).
A white mark on the chest less than 3 cm in diameter and/or a white line on the toes are not faulty.
- White.
The coat colour must always be intense and solid.
The normal black-born grey Pumi genetically is black. Grey puppies are born black and become grey in age of 11,5 year. Grey colour is the result of the semi-dominant gene for «greying (silvery)», which is located on a totally different allele in the color genetic code, which is shown as the G series. I call it «silver factor». Black-born grey colour is inherited independent from the main coat color (black, gold-sable).
Adult silver-factored Pumis are easy to discover, they are dark-grey coloured. The colour of adult double silver-factored (GG) Pumi is silver-grey.
Sabled red/yellow (árnyékolt fakó) Pumis are fawnredyellowcreamivory basic coloured with black (dark-grey, grey, silver-grey) shading [ & mask, which is very rare in Pumis].
Sabled red/yellow Pumi maybe silver-factored too. The mechanism of inheritance is as in case of black colour. Double silver-factored gold-sable puppies are born in black-shaded fawn colour and become silver-shaded light-yellow or cream colour in age of 11,5 year.
All of puppies will be sabled red/yellow colour. They maybe without silver factor, silver-factored or double silver-factored too. The sable red/yellow colours maybe modified by chinchilla gene to lighter (cream) colours.
Puppies maybe homozygote and heterozygote black-born (grey) and sable yellow colours. They maybe without silver factor, silver-factored or double silver-factored too. The sabled red/yellow colours maybe modified by chinchilla gene to lighter (cream) colours.
All of puppies are black-born (grey) colours, some of they are heterozygote to sable yellow colour. They maybe without silver factor, silver-factored or double silver-factored too.
Puppies maybe heterozygote black-born (grey) and sabled red/yellow colours. They maybe without silver factor, silver-factored or double silver-factored too. The sabled red/yellow colours maybe modified by chinchilla gene to lighter (cream) colours.
In the case of coupling parents with genotypes: {Ay-,EE,kk}x{Ay-,ee,KK}, all of puppies {Ay-,Ee,Kk} will be BLACK colour!
